Dr. Fareed Abu Suleiman

Today, a picture-perfect spring day in the Washington Metro Area. Also, on this day, this city and many regions of the world celebrated Easter Sunday. I don't believe any day could have topped the beauty of this day, because the sun glittered in blue skies, the temperature moderate, most of the trees are in full blossom, and billions remembered the rise of Jesus Christ from the dead. On this day, where rebirth and living seem to be the dominant themes, I was informed the Dr. Fareed Abu Suleiman embraced death and departed from this world.

I find it very touching to know that he passed away in April, the same month that Dr. Dahesh left this world in some 19 years prior and on the 20th day and in the 6th hour of the afternoon—numbers that have special meaning to Daheshists. He had just finished dinner after a day of fasting. He was in his mid 90's and lived as a Daheshist for almost 61 years. He was one of the early believers in the message of Dr. Dahesh. He is the last man to pass away from the first generation of Daheshists. He gave up the comfortable living a medical doctor enjoys and dedicated most of his time to help the mission.

I vividly remember going to his clinic in downtown Beirut during my teen years of 14-16, to listen to his explanations about Daheshism. On occasion, I would bring some of my friends on a hope that they would accept Daheshism. Here is a man who would not think twice about talking to a teenaged kid about Daheshism and the secrets of the universe, the way he understood them and for that I am very grateful.

He was a delicate soul in all sense of the word. He was gentle, pleasant, and with a child-like innocence. The last time I saw him, I believe, was in the early 1980's, when he visited the US. He lived a full life and will be missed.

May God bless his soul,

Mounir Murad
